Springday on the water, wooden panel 37 x 50 cm, in the same style as the paintings of Jan Jacob Spohler (1811 - 1866)
Provenance: estate of Anton Nicolaas Marie Karssen (1945 - 2019) himself
Although his winter landscapes in old Dutch style might even be more popular among art-lovers, this panel belongs to the best examples of the work of this self-taught and highly popular painter. Anton grew up in a family with several generations of painters and art-dealers. Among others Kasparus Karsen (1810 - 1896) and his son Johann Eduard Karsen (1860 - 1941) are direct relatives of Anton.
Anton painted in several styles, but is well-known as probably the best copier of the style of the Dutch romantic school (19th century). He specialised in landscapes and townscapes in the style of Leickert, Springer, Schelfhout and Spohler. His painting were appreciated on expositions worldwide and are sought-after in for example the USA, Australia, Belgium and Germany.
This is an opportunity to buy a premium example of Dutch 20th century art in the classic style.
