Provenance: Collection Simpson, New York

Afkomst: Collectie Simpson, New York

This 19th century (!) wooden mask, with sleeping eyes and open mouth, is decorated with brass tacks. Bete masks (Ivory Coast), particularly older examples, are fairly rare in the corpus of African art.

Length of the mask 33 cm

Masks of this age are not often on the market and this is a rare opportunity to obtain an almost 150 years old and unique piece of African art
