We have been told that this item originated from Roti, the southernmost island of the Indonesian archipelago. If so, it is most likely that this woodcarved door is made from the Lontar palm, which plays an essential role in the life of the people on Roti.
The door had been in use to seal one of the old stock-huts in which food was stored.
The carving is simple, but beautiful and for example four geckos are displayed.
Dimensions: 136 x 40 cm
A perfect example of Indonesian folk art, this old item is surely decorative and unique!
