This antique copper hook dates from around 1900 and is made in the Netherlands
The hook depicts a scene from the Greek mythology. The sea monster is the daughter of Poseidon and Gaia, Charybdis, who was turned by Zeus from nymph in to a monster, because she flooded his Kingdom. According to the myth the sea monster sucked up and spit out a huge amount of water three times a day.
This story adds to the decorative value of the hook, which can be used as coat rack or for a hanging basket or lamp, both inside and in the garden
