Stunning 18th or 19th century oak wood carving of the Generality lion of the marine vessel the "7 Provinciën".

In the history of the Dutch naval force several ships were named after the informal 16th century confederation, in the upstand against Filips II of Spain. Also in modern times (2002, 1953, 1910) ships with the name "7 Provinciën" were launched, but it all started with vessels in the 17th and 18th century. It is not complety clear if this wood carving originate from one of the vessels, for example the ship which was launched in 1782 for the Admirality 'het Noorderkwartier'.
